Virginia Fuel Funds

  • EnergyShare, sponsored by three utilities, was created in 1983 to help low-income households pay any type of heating bill.EnergyShare is supported by donations from utility stockholders, employees and customers, businesses, churches, and civic groups. In addition, matching funds and administrative costs are paid by the utilities.

  • Neighbor to Neighbor is funded by corporate and customer contributions from American Electric.

  • During 2007, several other Virginia utilities, including the electric cooperatives, contributed funds to assist low-income customers.
