HHS Provides Additional $598 Million to States

HHS has announced the release of $598 million in additional LIHEAP funds to States. The release will include (a) immediate distribution of $273 million, which is the remainder of first quarter funds to meet states' full first quarter requests and (b) $325 million to be released on January 1st to provide states with their full second quarter requests.  The allocation of funds for the 1st and 2ndquarters will be based on the $1.688 billion level that was also used for the first distribution of funds in October. Tribes and territories will now receive their entire annual allocations at the $1.688 billion level. The program is operating under a continuing resolution (CR) until January 31st. With the release of the $598 million, in addition to the $852 million released to date, states will have received (by January 1st) a total of $1.450 billion in FY 2004 LIHEAP funds under the CR. Two tables show allocations of the additional 1stquarter funds, and allocations of 2nd quarter funds that states will receive on January 1st.
