HHS Provides Additional $598 Million to States

HHS has announced the release of $598 million in additional LIHEAP funds to States. The release will include (a) immediate distribution of $273 million, which is the remainder of first quarter funds to meet states' full first quarter requests and (b) $325 million to be released on January 1^st to provide states with their full second quarter requests.  The allocation of funds for the 1^st and 2^ndquarters will be based on the $1.688 billion level that was also used for the first distribution of funds in October. Tribes and territories will now receive their entire annual allocations at the $1.688 billion level. The program is operating under a continuing resolution (CR) until January 31st. With the release of the $598 million, in addition to the $852 million released to date, states will have received (by January 1^st) a total of $1.450 billion in FY 2004 LIHEAP funds under the CR. Two tables show allocations of the additional 1^stquarter funds, and allocations of 2^nd quarter funds that states will receive on January 1^st.
