New York LIHEAP Gets $100 Million

On January 29, New York Governor George Pataki signed a bill that will provide $100 million in emergency funds to the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, the LIHEAP grantee. The state legislature had unanimously adopted the spending plan earlier in the week.

Sponsors said that home heating oil prices are up by 21 percent in New York over the last year and up 60 percent over the past two years and the LIHEAP office has reported a significant increase in heating assistance and emergency applications.
