New York’s LIPA Starts $10 Million Program for SeniorsAugust 20 -- The Long Island Power Authority on August 12 launched a program that will help cash-strapped seniors pay their electric bills. The Income-Eligible Senior Energy Assistance Program sets aside $10 million for LIPA customers age 62 and older who can’t afford their energy bills. Eligible seniors living in a two-person household must have less than $30,804 in annual income. They will receive a one-time credit of $200 on their LIPA electric bill. The Program is funded from a rate mitigation package through a settlement of disputed payments under a previous Management Services Agreement (MSA) with KeySpan and through savings extracted under a renegotiated MSA with National Grid after its merger with KeySpan.
